# OUT & ABOUT in Japan # ... Cherry Blossom Season

Cherry Blossom season is certainly a big event here in Japan.

It's also that time of year when everyone packs away their Winter frowns and the Spring mood begins to gather.  Spring in Japan is very special!!

The season actually starts a little early when the Plum Blossom is the first to appear.  This flower is quite small and is a purple/pink delight that starts to get the locals excited knowing that Spring is just around the corner.

This place with the large apartment blocks is called Tsukishima.  It's a fairly old man made island in the heart of Tokyo, just down from Ginza,  yet it holds a very Japanese-ish tradition of boat building, dating back many years, although this tradition has since been abandoned.  As you can see the buildings tower around the small harbour now.  It is still a very picture postcard location and the Sushi, Korean BBQ shops and a Japanese dish called "Monja" are famous in Tsukishima.
